Highlights

·        Minnesota has approximately 200 registered members. Please renew as soon as you get your renewal notice.

·        Decia Stenzel was inducted into the Minnesota Weightlifting Hall of Fame at the annual meeting last January. Dan Foerster was inducted as a noteworthy contributor in September.

·        The eighth Minnesota High School Championships were held at Cannon Falls H.S. in February.  Next year it will be held at Farmington H.S. on February 24, 2007.

·        Minnesota had a mens and womens team at the National Juniors March 10-12 in Altamonte Springs FL. The womens team won third place and the mens team came in sixth. Winning medals at the National Juniors were Jason Fiacco (Silver), who was awarded $341 from Minn LWC but returned it, and Cori Safe (Bronze), who was awarded $241. Other team members in addition to the above received $141 in reimbursement money for representing Team Minnesota. They are Bethany Hull, Abbey Snesrud, Rachel Albin, Abigail Hefer, Hanna-Maria Barsness, Alicia Emery, Brock Bohnenstingl, David Motoyoshi, and Kaleb Peters.

·        Minnesota had two lifters lift at the National Schoolage June in Detroit MI. They are Jessica DePuydt and Leah Morgan. Each received $100 reimbursement money. Amounts of reimbursement for the Nat Juniors and Nat Schoolage were decided based on profits from the H.S. State Championships, and a portion of entry fees at the preliminary H.S. meets.

·        A new award program for high school students will begin in 2007. It will award the three top males and females a cash award based primarily on most improved from the 2006 to the 2007 high school season thanks to the sponsorship of Pete Braginton.

·        In May the Minnesota LWC executive committee decided to change the amount and meets that we award medalists at national events. Awards will only be given for the Nationals ($500-1st, $400-2nd, $300-3rd) and the National Juniors ($300-1st, $200-2nd, $100-3rd).

·        Zach Krych won $300 for placing third at the National Championships in Shreveport last August.

·        David Motoyoshi and Megan Ripley will win the Minnesota Cup for 2006 and a cash reimbursement prize if used to go to a national event thanks to John Drewes with additional money promised by Craig Stewart.

Annual Meeting, Referee Clinic, and Banquet

The Minnesota Local Weightlifting Committee will have its annual meeting at the Rosetown American Legion Post, 700 W. County Road C, Roseville MN, on January 27, 2006 at 4:30 PM.  See the agenda.

Ahead of the meeting will be a referee clinic at 3:00 PM for those that want to become LWC referees, for all current LWC referees to maintain proficiency and find out about any new rules changes, and for any others that are interested.

After the meeting at 6:00 PM there will be a banquet at the Legion. The banquet is a spaghetti dinner for $6.00. The banquet will honor the 2006 Minnesota Cup winners, and the 2007 Hall of Fame inductee.
